When your ATV or Motorcycle has this problem. I have worked on hundreds of bikes for this reason and 90% of the time it is this issue, The carburetor needs to be taken off of the bike and cleaned. Dismantle the entire carburetor, be careful not to strip out any screws. I always use starter fluid to clean everything.

Take pictures with your cell phone if you have a hard time remembering how things go back together (great Tip). Put everything on flattened out white paper towels so that you can see all of the parts because their may be springs that may come loose and fall out. Work slow.

The two main reasons why the bike is running poorly is that the 2 jets inside the carburetor need to be cleaned. The large jet is for high speed and the small jet is for idle. The biggest mistake people tend to make is that they do not clean the small jet perfectly. So put on some high powered reading glasses on and really clean it, I use a piece of very small electrical wire after I remove the jet and work it through it until it is perfect. The large jet is easy to clean. Gasoline is very dirty and gums up everything you may see small white crystals on the bottom of the bowl that holds the extra gas, Make sure all of this is cleaned out.. The bowl that is on the bottom of the carburetor should be cleaned perfectly but be careful not to damage the gasket, if so buy another one. Never make your own gasket it will not work. Then clean out every hole in the carburetor with a can of compressed air, be anal on this it needs to be really clean.

I hate to put something back together again to find out that it does not work. Empty out the gas tank and clean it too. I use starting fluid by spraying it out. If the gas lines look old replace them and always change the fuel filter. Do not let anything run into the carburetor until everything is clean then add new gas. Only Run at less 93 Octane in all bikes.
